Exodus 33
17 And the Lord said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.”
18 Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”
19 And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 20 But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”
21 Then the Lord said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. 22 When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.”
Notice in vs. 18 Moses asks to see God's Glory. God responds by saying I'll show you my Goodness. Now did I miss something or did not Moses ask to see His Glory? God then goes on to say in vs 22 that His Glory will pass by. I see that God here is showing us His Glory IS His Goodness.
What happened to Moses in the next chapter. He comes down after being in His presence - exposed to the Goodness of God, with the Glory of God radiating from his very pores! God showed Moses His Goodness. The effect was glorious. The Israelis were exposed to this Glory emminating from Moses. The Glory of God.
When you ask for intimacy with God - He responds by showing you His Goodness in your life. His Goodness towards you becomes the things you celebrate, which causes you to radiate to others around you the Glory of God. Others see this and marvel at how much God loves you and showers you with Goodness. This in turn brings Glory to God.
John 15: 7-8
If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit
God is glorified by the fruit we bear through answered prayer. Answered prayers are God's Goodness towards us.
Watch what happens when you swap out the glory and goodness.
Romans 3:23
For all have sinned and fallen short of the Goodness of God.
Indeed we had. Fallen short of reaching His Goodness.
Psalms 24:10
Who is he, this King of glory(Goodness)? The LORD Almighty--he is the King of glory(Goodness).
2 Corinthians 3:18
And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory(Goodness), are being
transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory(Goodness), which comes
from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
I'll be meditating on this some more, these next few months and will return to wrap this up.
